Event description

Professional Learning Network

The UCL Widening Participation team are launching a Professional Learning Network (PLN) for teachers. Members of the PLN will be invited to attend special events including regular ‘Teacher Takeaway’ twilight CPD sessions, teacher conferences, and also to share online resources.

Activities and events will draw together academics, researchers and teachers to explore pedagogies and tools that aim to close the attainment gap and support social mobility through education. It is our intention that practising teachers will form a powerful voice within the PLN, shaping content and helping to deliver CPD, which will be complemented by contributions from experts within higher education and the world of work.

As part of UCL’s commitment to widening participation and fair access, the Professional Learning Network is free to join and aimed at teachers working in state-funded schools and colleges. If you would like to be a part of the Professional Learning Network please register using the online form.

Teacher Takeaway

The next Teacher Takeaway, focussing on Supporting EAL Learners in the Classroom, is taking place on Thursday 6th July 2017, between 6.00pm and 7.30pm.

The UCL Access and Widening Participation Office are delighted to welcome Izabela Samsonowicz, EAL Specialist at the UCL Academy in Camden, to lead this interactive twilight CPD event for teachers, which will explore:

· The impact of environmental factors on language acquisition

· Strategies for planning and delivering EAL-friendly lessons

· Common problems EAL students face and targeted solutions

The event will explore practical examples and provide advice and resources for teachers to ‘takeaway’ and use in their own educational setting. Participants are invited to bring along a lesson plan, resources, or extract from a scheme of work to practically apply the learning from the session, although this is optional.

This event is open to teachers working in non-selective state schools and colleges. To secure your place at this event please RSVP to
