This information sheet provides information on how leading universities are responding to qualification changes including new AS-level and A-level provision, GCSE grade changes, the practical element of the science A-level, core maths provision and the Advanced Welsh Baccalaureate.

‘Core maths’ refers to a group of mathematics qualifications available in England.
Leading universities value mathematics skills for many different degree courses and most have GCSE or equivalent requirements. Mathematical and statistical problem-solving, data-analysis and interpretation skills are useful for a wide variety of undergraduate degrees. A core maths qualification may help your students improve and maintain these skills, especially if they are not taking AS- or A-level mathematics or further mathematics.
STEM Learning provides a range of free resources to support teachers with students undertaking a Core Maths qualification.
Informed Choices is produced by the Russell Group. This resources has recently been redesigned as a new interactive website which students can use to help them to make the best post-16 choices to help them to progress to their preferred degree course.
A series of 'postcards' outlining the work Ofqual is doing, with an emphasis on current reforms to qualifications in England.
